Every ear is unique.

So is your impression.

Your path to truly customfit hearing protection.

Before we can craft your individual product, we need something very personal: an impression of your ear. Just like your fingerprint, your ear is one of a kind – and only a precise impression ensures the perfect fit, optimal sound, and maximum comfort. You can choose between two methods for your ear impression: the classic way using a soft silicone material applied directly into the ear, or the modern, contactless method via 3D scan. Both options give us an exact model of your ear – the perfect foundation for your custom-made product.

#Headoverheels 💙

We hope you love your new hearing protection as much as we do!

As unique as you. Your ear deserves perfection.

No two ears are the same.

At bachmaier®, we’ve fitted more than 2 million ears – and every single one was different.

Big, small, tiny, huge or medium-sized. Round, oval, pointed, protruding or close to the head. Asymmetrical, shell-shaped, smooth or wrinkled, hairy or soft, cartilaginous or even. Some are striking, pierced, tattooed or scarred, others are elegant, delicate, sunken or misshapen. Many wear piercings, are bold, full of character – your ear tells your story. And that's exactly why we don't make our ear products "off the shelf," but custom-made – perfectly tailored to you and your unique ear.

We 💙 ears. Especially yours.

What happens during an ear impression?

To ensure your product fits perfectly, we need a precise impression of your ear. The good news: The process is completely painless, takes just a few minutes – and is the first step toward greater comfort, protection, and your personal listening experience.

Ear impressions? Ask away – here come the answers.

What is an ear impression?

An ear impression is the first step to creating a custom-made product that fits your ear perfectly – whether it's in-ear headphones, hearing protection, or a hearing aid. It captures the exact shape of your ear canal and outer ear, ensuring optimal fit, maximum comfort, and no pressure or slipping.

Does an ear impression hurt?

No. The process is completely painless. You might feel a slight pressure in your ear – similar to a soft earplug. That’s all.

How much does an ear impression cost?

Nothing! The impression is included in the recommended retail price (RRP) when you purchase a bachmaier® product from an authorized dealer.

Who performs the ear impression?

Only trained professionals such as hearing aid specialists or audiologists. They examine your ear beforehand (e.g., for wax buildup or infections) and ensure the procedure is safe and precise.

Why is an ear impression important?

So that your product fits like a glove. Every ear is unique – only a precise impression guarantees that:

In-ear headphones stay securely in place

Hearing protection seals effectively

Hearing aids fit comfortably and work properly

Can I get an impression with "cauliflower ears" (auricular hematoma)?

Yes – absolutely. Our partners are experienced and know exactly what to do.

Can I get an ear impression with piercings?

Yes, in most cases – but here’s what to consider:

Piercings in the ear canal or impression area (e.g., Tragus, Concha) must be removed.

Piercings on the outer ear (e.g., Helix) usually aren’t a problem.

Fresh piercings should be fully healed before the impression.

Tip: Speak with your hearing care provider beforehand. They’ll check your ear and let you know if any piercings need to be removed.

How long does an ear impression take?

The entire process takes around 10 to 15 minutes per ear. It’s quick – and the benefits last for years.

What methods are used for ear impressions?

There are two proven techniques:

Silicone impression: Medical-grade silicone is gently inserted into the ear, hardens after a short time, and is then remove.

3D scan: Some of our partners offer modern, contactless 3D ear scanning for digital measurement.

Do you offer a mobile ear impression service?

Yes. For groups of five or more, we offer a mobile service at your location. For ten or more people, we coordinate appointments across Europe through our industry partners. Just contact our sales team for a tailored quote.

Do you visit companies to take impressions?

Yes – within our local area around Bischofswiesen, we offer direct appointments. Outside of this region, we work with a network of partners across Europe. Get in touch with our sales team for more details.

What happens to my impression at bachmaier?

We create a digital 3D model of your ear and use state-of-the-art technology to produce your product – with perfect accuracy, great comfort, and optional laser engraving. The finished product is then delivered to your hearing care provider.

Is my impression stored?

Yes. We scan your impression and store it (anonymously) for future use. This allows us to check later whether the data is still valid or if a new impression is needed.
